Come join the fun this Saturday March 12th 9 AM Bear Gulch Trailhead (Little Applegate Road) for a worthy cause – a trail for you to use – something delicous will be served, gorgeous views, great exercise and lots of joking and fun people are all part of the deal .

Next Work Parties:  March 26th , April 9th and April 23rd, 2011

See below for details in case you have not been to one of our work parties this year.

_______________

Work Party Details:

WHEN: Saturday, March 12th from 9:00 – 1:00

WHERE: Park at Buncom (intersection of Sterling Creek Road and Little Applegate Road) by 8:45 for a carpool to this week’s trailhead,

OR

Meet at Bear Gulch Trailhead on Little Applegate Road (about 7 miles east of Buncom). We’ll leave the trailhead for the SMDT trail at 9:00 AM!

WHAT WE’LL DO: Hike up the Bear Gulch access trail about 1 mile, then travel west towards Wolf Gulch on the SMDT, round trip total of about four-five miles.  The trail leaves the ditch for a mile or so, and a high point on the by-pass above Wolf Gulch offers sweeping views of Wagner Butte, Dutchman Peak, and Red Buttes Wilderness!  Depending on how many people turn out we may split into two groups so we’re not in each others’ way; one group quickly moving ahead to the turn-around point and working back towards Bear Gulch, the other working west from where the Bear Gulch access trail meets the SMD.

WHAT TO BRING: Loppers, a folding pruning saw, gloves, and a small backpack for water and a trail snack.  Sense of humor, friends, and family!

WHAT TO WEAR: Sturdy footwear, and dress in layers.  Rain gear if rain is forecast.  Consider wearing light colored pants to see ticks more easily (they’re out now!).

Heavy rain or snow cancels; for light or threatening rain or snow flurries, dress appropriately!

Call or email Jim Reiland at 541-899-1091 or jimrjoyr@wildblue.net to RSVP or if you have any questions about the work party.

NOTE: All participants must read and sign a BLM volunteer form at the trail head. Minors working on the trail must have parental consent. If you are planning to attend the January 9th trail party and are 18 or under, please contact Hope Robertson 541-899-5665 so she can arrange for a volunteer form to be emailed or faxed for your parent’s signature in advance.
