Deming Gulch Trail Work Party, February 20, 2016

Dear Sterling Mine Ditch Trail Enthusiasts,

We have a special treat for our next trail work party – re-opening a short but lovely section of the ditch near the Deming Horse Trailer Parking area.  After this work party, a crew will come in to build two small puncheon bridges  and the section can be opened for use.  PuncheonBridgeWe are excited.

When:  February 20th – Saturday

8:30 AM – 1:30 PM (includes lunch provided by SUTA)

Where:   Meet at Deming Horse Trailer Parking Area at 8:30 AM (3/10ths of a mile beyond the Deming Trailhead).  To reach parking area, turn-off Sterling Creek Rd near the 9 mile marker onto BLM’s Armstrong-Deming Rd – new Sterling Mine Ditch Trail sign opposite turn.  Turn left at the “T” and drive about 1 mile to the horse trailer parking area. For detailed driving directions click HERE.

What:  Brushing and tread work along the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail to re-open a long-abandoned section of the trail and to prepare for two new puncheon bridges. Short hike down/up road from the parking area to the intersection with the ditch.

What to Bring: Wear comfortable hiking or work boots, dress in layers and bring a warm hat and gloves—much of this trail section is shaded in the winter–it can be quite cold.  If you have them, please bring loppers, a pruning saw or a tread tool such as a Pulaski, grubber, or sturdy shovel.  Bring water and whatever special snacks you like.  SUTA supplies additional trail tools, delicious home-baked snacks to fuel you on the trail, as well as lunch.

RSVP:  If you plan to come, please email SUTAoregoncontact@gmail.com so we can plan the work party and food!  Thank you!

The dates for future SUTA trail work parties are:

March 19, 2016

April 9, 2016

April 30, 2016

We look forward to seeing you out on the trail and on a work party!
