Fight the February Blues with a Sterling Mine Ditch Trail Work Party

Want a rewarding and fun way to spend a February weekend morning?  Come join SUTA for a trail work party on February 21st.  We will be hiking from roughly the center of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail (accessed through a private property) to the Bear Gulch Trailhead. This trail work party will concentrate on light trimming and some tread work. Great views, lovely woods and an easy one-way 3.5 mile hike to the Bear Gulch Trailhead – where we will have lunch.

When:   February 21st– Saturday   8:30 AM – 1:30 PM (includes lunch provided by SUTA)

Where:   Meet at Buncom (corner of Sterling Creek Road and Little Applegate Road) no later than 8:30AMWe will carpool to a private property along Little Applegate Road to access the ditch.  Here’s a map of the area:  Tunnel Ridge to Little Applegate to Bear Gulch

What:  Brushing and tread work along the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail from Wolf Gulch down to the Bear Gulch trailhead.

What to Bring: Wear comfortable hiking or work boots, dress in layers and bring gloves.  If you have them, please bring loppers, a pruning saw or a tread tool such as a Pulaski, grubber, or sturdy shovel.  Bring water and whatever snacks you like.  SUTA supplies additional trail tools and the classic SUTA snacks.
