2013 National Trails Day Celebration

Saturday, June 1, 2013
8:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Help complete the new
Armstrong Gulch access trail

To insure future access to the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail (SMDT), BLM
and SUTA are creating two new access trails at the Armstrong Gulch.
These new trails will ensure continued public access at Armstrong
Gulch to the SMDT by providing a by-pass around private property.
Your help in completing these two access trails will speed opening
them for public use and create a great new loop for the community
to enjoy. Come join your fellow outdoor enthusiasts in celebrating
National Trails Day by helping us enhance this wonderful trail.

• Bring rakes, shovels, and/or loppers. Some tools will be available.
• Breakfast provided for volunteers at 8:30 AM, compliments of REI- Medford.
• Lunch provided for volunteers at 1:00 PM, compliments of SUTA.
• Special festivities will include recognition of some of our partners
as well as drawings for trail stuff for all volunteers who help out.

Enormous Outpouring at Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

Categories: Events, News & Updates - Tags: , ,

Dear All,
Thanks to everyone’s hard work – especially Joy Rogalla and Annette who organized the entire National Trails Day Event – we had a smash hit!  Jim Reiland lost count at over 100 people at the actual ribbon cutting ceremony.

At least another 40-50 people showed up to hike after that and we had 25-40 people hiking at the other trailheads – some who hadn’t even known about the event.

So thank you one and all for all your help on everything — from trail work to baking to posting flyers and more.  BLM was quite blown away by the enormous outpouring of support – WAY TO GO SUTA.

We will be announcing a series of hikes on the Jack-Ash trail in the next couple of weeks so we hope you can come out and check out this next stage of our trail.  More to come.  In the meantime I hope you can go out and enjoy all of your hard work on the Sterling Mine Ditch trail.  It looks fabulous.

Thanks all.

Hope Robertson
